He looks like he's posed in front of a door... have you seen the Russian film "The Checkist"? It's a bit hard to watch because of its hyper-violence, but essentially they rounded up undesirables and their families, had them strip down, and then go stand (in groups of five) in front of doors, where they were executed. Day in, day out, the people were brought in, stripped down, lined up, and shot. Anyway, all that to say, that your magnificent man posed in front of a door looks like he might have been rounded up by the Checkist Guard, and here he stands defiantly ready to be shot.
